Draw the water path before identifying a fitting
A pressure washer has several different connections: the water-supply inlet, pump high-pressure outlet, hose ends, gun inlet and accessory outlet. The fact that two positions use a quick connection does not mean they use the same fitting. Begin by drawing the actual path from machine to nozzle.
Keep the low-pressure garden-hose supply separate from the high-pressure circuit. A garden connector that fits the water inlet is not a high-pressure repair part. Similarly, a foam-lance connector belongs to the accessory side of the gun or lance, not automatically to the hose inlet.
Record the machine model, hose part number and gun identification. Photograph both disconnected mating ends in good light, including their locks and seals. Original equipment can have been replaced, so the badge on the washer cannot identify every currently installed fitting.
Decide whether you need replacement or extension
A replacement hose takes the place of the supported original hose. An extension joins into a system using its specified arrangement. A hose-reel installation can introduce another connection and routing requirement. These are different purchases even when the advertised length is similar.
Do not buy an extension to replace a hose without checking how it is designed to connect. Equally, a replacement with two supported ends does not automatically join onto the existing hose. Confirm what will connect at the pump, what will connect at the gun and whether any original reel remains in use.
Extra length also changes handling and storage. Follow the washer’s hose-length and operating guidance, route the hose away from sharp edges and hot parts, and do not use it as a line for pulling the machine around. A longer hose should solve access without introducing unsupported joints.
Map each interface before comparing adapters
The table separates documented component interfaces from a decision about your assembled system. It follows the water path: machine → hose or approved extension → gun inlet → gun outlet → accessory. An extension and a replacement hose occupy different roles.
| Component and role | Upstream / hose-side interface | Downstream / accessory-side interface | Remaining decision |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kärcher H 9 Q / 2.641-721.0 9m replacement hose | Kärcher Quick Connect at machine | Kärcher Quick Connect at gun | Exact machine/gun/reel approval and conflicting rating need resolving from the supplied documentation. |
| Bosch F016800361 6m extension | Bosch push-fit extension interface | Bosch push-fit extension interface | Match the existing Bosch hose system and extension route; not a generic replacement. |
| McKillans Swivel Gun Pro Replacement gun | 3/8in male quick connect; supplied M22-14/15 routes | 1/4in female quick connect | Identify hose-side and accessory-side matches independently. |
Sources: Kärcher’s UK part page, Bosch F016800361 and McKillans Swivel Gun Pro specifications. Keep the exact identifiers alongside the connector wording; colour, brand and nominal quick-release size alone cannot establish a route.
What the named interfaces do—and do not—establish
| Candidate route | Result | Reason or remaining check |
|---|---|---|
| H 9 Q hose → McKillans native inlet | Unverified route | The sources do not establish this direct join. A documented conversion would need its own approval. |
| Bosch F016800361 → McKillans native inlet | Unverified route | Shared quick-release wording does not identify a mating profile or approved conversion. |
| M22-14 hose → supplied M22-14 adapter | Conditional route | Confirm actual mating thread, stem, pack contents and all operating limits. |
| M22-15 hose → M22-14-only adapter | Reject this mismatch | Matching M22 threads do not correct the 14/15mm sealing difference. |
| 3/8in female hose coupler → native gun inlet | Conditional route | Nominal size and sex are only part of the check: profile, lock, seals and ratings must agree. |
| Hose-side 3/8in plug → 1/4in gun outlet | Reject this direct join | The gun outlet is the accessory side, not an alternative hose inlet. |
“Conditional” means the stated route still needs the actual mating profile, seals, engagement, ratings and equipment approval checked. “Unverified” means the cited sources do not establish that join; it is not evidence that a generic adapter will solve it. A rejected direct mismatch does not become acceptable by forcing it, adding tape or connecting at a different position.
Download the candidate routes, decision reasons and sources (CSV). Record a different adapter only when its exact part, orientation and supported mating system are documented.
Check the rating separately from the fitting
For a numerical example, use Bosch’s stated 135-bar extension class and three hypothetical washer requirements. The margin is component ceiling − washer requirement. These assumed washer figures do not identify approved Bosch models:
| Assumed washer requirement | Margin against 135 bar | Numerical result |
|---|---|---|
| 120 bar | 15 bar | Within ceiling; fit and system approval still required |
| 135 bar | 0 bar | Within ceiling; fit and system approval still required |
| 160 bar | -25 bar | Exceeds ceiling; reject this rating combination |
Download the pressure-screen inputs and results (CSV).
A zero margin does not prove compatibility or supply an additional safety allowance. A negative margin rules out the rating combination. Flow, temperature, hose length and manufacturer approval still need separate checks; a gun with a larger printed maximum cannot upgrade the hose. Use the washer requirement stated by its maker, not a guessed lower pressure from a gentle nozzle.
Why the H 9 Q rating needs an exact-document check
Kärcher’s UK page for 2.641-721.0 describes a 160-bar replacement hose but lists 180 bar in its technical table. Its headline says K3–K7 while its device list also includes some K2 models. The international page describes K2–K7 and 180 bar. Those differences are a reason to hold the rating/model decision, rather than selecting the largest figure or assuming every model in a series is covered.
Match the supplied hose’s exact documentation, machine variant, original gun and reel arrangement. Until those resolve the uncertainty, this guide does not approve an H 9 Q setup from its series name or nominal connector alone. Its published temperature figure also does not change the washer’s permitted water temperature.
Once the complete route is supported, a changed gun or lance can change pickup behaviour. Use the PIR scenario comparison to understand why the old bottle mixture should be recalibrated for the new setup.
Three examples that belong to different connection decisions
| Product | Role | Check before purchase |
|---|---|---|
| Kärcher H 9 Q, 2.641-721.0 | 9m replacement hose, Quick Connect both ends | Supported machine, gun and any reel arrangement |
| Bosch F016800361 | 6m push-fit extension, 135-bar class | Exact Bosch system and extension mounting |
| McKillans Swivel Gun Pro | Gun inlet example: 3/8-inch male quick connect | Hose mating end or exact supported M22 adapter |
Kärcher H 9 Q: a specific replacement arrangement
The selected H 9 Q, part 2.641-721.0, is a nine-metre high-pressure replacement hose with Quick Connect at both ends. Kärcher describes Quick Connect arrangements on supported equipment, but the UK and international pages differ in their model and pressure descriptions. Use the exact supplied documentation and actual machine outlet and gun inlet; the series name alone does not settle compatibility.
For a matched Quick Connect replacement hose
Kärcher H 9 Q Quick Connect Hose 9m
An original 9m replacement hose with Kärcher Quick Connect at both ends. Match the supplied documentation to the exact washer, gun and reel arrangement.
- 9m replacement hose
- Quick Connect at both ends
- Part 2.641-721.0
Kärcher’s UK description says 160 bar while its technical table says 180 bar, and its model descriptions differ from the international page. Resolve the applicable rating and exact-model approval before purchase or use. This is not a universal extension, reel conversion or M22 adapter.
The UK description states 160 bar while its technical table states 180 bar; the international page lists 180 bar and 60°C. Resolve the applicable pressure rating from the supplied part documentation before using it in a system. The temperature maximum is not permission to feed hot water into a washer whose own instructions do not allow it. All parts of the operating system must remain within their intended use.
Do not describe this hose as a universal extension, M22 replacement or reel conversion. A machine with a different hose end or reel arrangement needs its own supported solution. A similar yellow-and-black appearance cannot establish the internal connection.
Bosch F016800361: a 135-bar extension
Bosch’s F016800361 is a six-metre high-pressure extension with push-fit connections in the 135-bar class. It is a distinct accessory from Bosch’s 160-bar extension, F016800482. Retain the full part number when comparing listings; the shared brand and length do not make the two the same hose.
For extending the compatible Bosch push-fit hose system
Bosch Extension Hose 6m — 135 bar
An original 6m extension hose with push-fit connections and a 135-bar rating. It extends a supported existing hose arrangement rather than replacing every hose with a similar-looking plug.
- 6m extension
- 135-bar rating
- Part F016800361
Check the exact machine, both ends and the original hose. This is not the 160-bar F016800482 or a generic AdvancedAquatak140–160 replacement. A higher washer rating is not made acceptable by using a gentler nozzle.
Check the exact washer and both joining positions against the current Bosch instructions. Do not assume a generic AdvancedAquatak 140–160 arrangement can use this 135-bar part. A gentle nozzle setting does not change the component’s permitted rating.
Confirm that the need is extension rather than replacement, and check the complete route through any existing hose. Avoid using a mixed stack of unconfirmed adapters to make a cheaper extension appear to fit. The intended system and its operating limits should determine the purchase.
M22 describes more than one useful dimension
M22 describes a nominal thread arrangement, while the common 14mm and 15mm suffixes identify different sealing-stem dimensions. A fitting can begin to thread together while still having the wrong sealing geometry. Check the complete specification and the intended mating parts.
Measure only disconnected, depressurised equipment and use the manufacturer’s description alongside any measurement. Do not dismantle a pressure assembly simply to identify a hidden size without the appropriate service procedure. Where the fitting remains uncertain, provide clear photographs and part numbers to the supplier.
Keep thread standards separate too. BSP and NPT should not be substituted on the basis of a nearly matching diameter. The intended seal may be an O-ring, face seal or a particular threaded arrangement; adding tape cannot turn an incorrect assembly into the correct one.
Quick-connect size is not threaded-port size
If you are replacing the gun, compare the short-trigger and supported original-style routes before selecting a hose adapter. For a foam accessory, use the separate Nilfisk or Bosch lance guide where that is the installed washer family; hose fit alone does not identify the foam outlet.
A 3/8-inch quick-connect description identifies a coupling arrangement, not permission to screw it into any 3/8-inch threaded opening. Plug profile, male or female form, lock and seal must match. Proprietary consumer connections can use their own geometry even when a retailer calls them quick release.
The McKillans Swivel Gun Pro illustrates a separately specified inlet and outlet: 3/8-inch male quick connect at the inlet and 1/4-inch female quick connect at the accessory outlet. Its supplied M22-14 and M22-15 adapters address those exact threaded arrangements, not every original UK consumer hose.
For a confirmed compatible M22 or 3/8in quick-connect hose setup
McKillans Swivel Gun Pro
A compact trigger gun with a swivel 3/8in male quick-connect inlet and 1/4in female quick-connect outlet. The selected pack includes adapters for M22-14mm and M22-15mm hoses.
- 3/8in male QC inlet
- 1/4in female QC outlet
- M22-14mm and M22-15mm adapters
These adapters do not directly accept every proprietary UK domestic hose. Confirm both ends, ratings, washer control compatibility and the required wand/nozzle separately. Maximum ratings are component limits, not extra washer output; no zero-degree nozzle on car paint.
Changing the gun can therefore create two compatibility decisions at once. The hose needs a supported inlet connection, while the wand, nozzle or foam lance needs the correct outlet connection. Resolve both before dismantling a working original setup.
Check the weakest part and the locking condition
Confirm pressure, temperature, flow and application limits for the assembled system. A high-rated gun cannot upgrade a lower-rated hose or adapter. Manufacturer approval for the particular arrangement matters alongside the printed numerical maximum.
Switch off and depressurise before disconnecting, inspect locks and seals, and follow the prescribed engagement check. Stop if a connection is loose, damaged or leaking. Do not hold it together under pressure or search for a high-pressure leak with a hand.
A damaged high-pressure hose needs an appropriate replacement or authorised service advice. Do not patch it with tape or substitute an unidentified seal to stop a persistent leak. Keep a record of the working part numbers once the system is correct; the next replacement can then start with evidence rather than another search through similar-looking plugs.
Common questions
Are all pressure-washer quick-release fittings interchangeable?
No. Nominal size, profile, male or female form, sealing arrangement and manufacturer system all matter. Hose-side quick connections should also be kept distinct from the accessory connector at the gun outlet.
What is the difference between M22-14 and M22-15?
Both refer to a nominal M22 threaded arrangement, while 14 and 15 describe different sealing-stem dimensions. Confirm the complete mating specification; matching threads alone do not prove a proper seal.
Is the Kärcher H 9 Q an extension hose?
The selected H 9 Q, 2.641-721.0, is a nine-metre replacement hose, not a universal extension. Match its supplied documentation and both installed interfaces. The UK source contains different pressure figures, so the part number alone does not settle ratings or every model’s approval.
Can I use a 135-bar hose on a 160-bar washer with a gentle nozzle?
Do not exceed the accessory’s permitted system rating. A gentle spray pattern does not upgrade the hose. Bosch’s selected F016800361 is the six-metre 135-bar extension, distinct from its 160-bar extension part.
Can seal tape make an almost-matching connector work?
No. Tape does not correct the wrong thread standard, sealing stem, plug profile or missing lock. Use the intended matched fitting and seal, and stop if the connection leaks or does not engage normally.
