Snow-foam connector identification

Identify the gun-to-lance connection before buying: Kärcher K bayonet, older trigger adapters, quick-release couplings and professional fittings explained.

A disconnected trigger gun and separate foam-lance head on a workbench

Identify a snow-foam connector by the two parts it must join, not by the washer brand printed in a listing. A hose connects to a gun, a gun connects to an accessory, and some foam heads have another detachable coupling of their own. An adapter for one join does not necessarily solve another.

Start with the equipment switched off and fully depressurised according to its manual. Record the washer model, the actual trigger gun and the foam attachment. If a previous owner changed the gun, the original machine’s accessory list may no longer describe the connection in your hand.

Map the three joins before shopping

The inlet side of the trigger gun takes the high-pressure hose. The outlet side takes the spray lance or another approved accessory. A foam cannon may then have its own removable connector between that gun fitting and the foam head. Name the join you are changing before measuring anything.

This avoids a common buying error: ordering a hose quick-connect conversion when the problem is a foam-lance bayonet at the front of the gun. It also prevents a detachable collar on the foam head being mistaken for the connection already fitted to the gun.

Recognise the domestic K-series accessory question

A standard K-series gun and accessory commonly use the manufacturer’s push-and-turn arrangement. The K 5 Power Control manual describes inserting a lance and turning it 90 degrees to lock. That describes the named gun’s accessory operation; it is not a method to try on every black plastic connector.

Kärcher’s FJ 6 page provides a specific compatibility boundary: K 2–K 7 fit, with Adapter M required for older M, 96 and 97 trigger guns. Inspect the gun identity and manual before assuming that its age or a familiar machine number settles the connection.

Adapter M is for the older trigger interface

The genuine Adapter M is a relevant purchase only when you have identified that older M, 96 or 97 gun and the intended accessory match. It is not a general route from any pressure hose to a modern quick-release gun.

For identified older Kärcher trigger guns

Kärcher Adapter M

An adapter for connecting suitable current accessories to the older M, 96 and 97 trigger guns. It addresses that specific older-gun interface rather than converting every pressure-washer connection.

  • Older M / 96 / 97 guns
  • Gun-to-accessory adapter
  • Check the exact trigger model
Keep in mind

Identify the gun before ordering. This is not a hose-to-gun quick-connect converter, a universal M22 fitting or an adapter for professional EASY!Lock equipment.

Buying an adapter for an already compatible gun adds an unnecessary part. If you cannot identify the trigger model, photograph the label, the gun outlet and the accessory end separately and ask the supplier to confirm the match before ordering. Keep the system unpressurised while inspecting it.

Do not confuse a head coupling with the gun fitting

Some foam attachments separate into a bottle/head assembly and a removable gun adapter. For example, Autoglym’s Polar Blaster instructions identify the black K-series connector and a spring-loaded brass collar that joins it to the foam head. That collar is not evidence that a standard K-series gun already has the same quick-release socket.

A short trigger gun may instead have a dedicated quick-release accessory socket. In that case, identify its required plug profile, size, pressure rating and sealing arrangement from the gun maker. A listing that says only “quick connect” is incomplete information for choosing the mating part.

A complete matching attachment can be simpler

The FJ 6 is a complete accessory option when its stated K-series fit and the actual gun agree. Check the pack on the listing rather than assuming an adapter shown in another photograph is supplied with it.

For a compact K-series foam attachment

Kärcher FJ 6 Foam Jet 600ml

A 600ml foam attachment with an adjustable detergent feed and spray direction. The selected listing is the nozzle on its own, rather than a shampoo or multipack bundle.

  • 600ml reservoir
  • Adjustable detergent feed
  • K-series gun fitting
Keep in mind

Kärcher specifies K 2–K 7 fit. Older M, 96 and 97 trigger guns require Adapter M; check the actual gun and the chemical instructions. Rinse through after use.

The selected MJJC Pro listing also supplies a K-series adapter. It is a different listing from a Pro version supplied only with a 1/4-inch quick connector. Choose the version that matches your gun, rather than ordering a familiar bottle shape and hoping its end fitting is the same.

For a larger reservoir and replaceable filter

MJJC Foam Cannon Pro with Kärcher K adapter

The selected Pro listing has a 1,200ml tank, Kärcher K adapter and a spare mesh filter. A useful alternative when reservoir handling and access to model-specific spares matter.

  • 1,200ml listed reservoir
  • Kärcher K adapter supplied
  • Spare mesh filter listed
Keep in mind

Confirm the exact Pro version supplied, washer flow requirements and gun fitting. Do not substitute the 1/4-inch-only listing for a standard K-series gun or assume every Pro-generation part is interchangeable.

Professional Kärcher fittings are a separate system

Kärcher’s professional EASY!Lock adapter finder distinguishes equipment groups and old/new connections. That is a different task from the domestic K-series bayonet. A professional hose or lance with an M22-labelled connection should not be treated as a domestic foam-gun adapter simply because both products carry the same brand.

Read the full connection specification on both sides of any adapter, including the sealing method and operating limits. Similar diameters, the word “universal”, or a photograph of a metal collar do not establish a match. Do not file a bayonet, force a thread or stack unverified converters to make the parts meet.

Make a useful identification record

Write down these details before asking a supplier or buying a replacement:

  • Washer model and product number from its identification plate.
  • Trigger-gun model, including any aftermarket replacement.
  • The exact join you need to change: hose inlet, gun outlet or foam-head adapter.
  • Accessory model and supplied fitting option.
  • Clear separate photographs of the mating ends and any identifying marks.
  • Any dimensional or thread specification requested by the manufacturer.

Do not reduce the record to a measurement of the widest plastic part. Bayonet engagement, thread pitch, sealing faces and locking geometry can matter even when two outside diameters look similar.

Check the fit without improvising a pressure test

Follow the equipment’s assembly directions with the system safely shut down. Parts should engage and lock using the intended method. If a connection feels cross-threaded, cannot seat fully or leaves the collar unable to lock, stop. Do not hold it together by hand while operating the washer.

Once a match has been confirmed, use the machine’s specified startup and inspection procedure. A leak, movement or damaged seal needs resolving before further use. See using a pressure washer on a car for the wider setup and choosing a foam lance for reservoir and maintenance choices after the fitting question is settled.

Choose the exact washer accessory

Use the dedicated Nilfisk and Bosch guides for the current original-accessory options. Keep hose-side and gun-inlet compatibility separate from the foam-lance attachment point.

Common questions

Does “Kärcher compatible” mean every Kärcher washer?

No. Domestic K-series accessory fittings, older trigger guns and professional equipment can require different parts. Confirm the actual gun and the precise join. A brand name alone does not identify both mating connections.

Is the hose quick-connect the same as the foam-lance connector?

No. The hose enters the gun, while a foam attachment joins at the gun’s accessory outlet. Some foam heads have another detachable coupling as well. Identify the join before ordering an adapter.

What does Adapter M do?

Kärcher identifies it for connecting suitable newer accessories to older M, 96 and 97 trigger guns. It is not a universal hose adapter or a general conversion for professional EASY!Lock equipment. Check the gun model first.

Can I fit a 1/4-inch-only foam cannon to my standard K-series gun?

Do not assume it connects directly. Identify whether the gun has the required socket or uses a K-series accessory fitting. Buy a manufacturer-confirmed fitting or the correct supplied-lance variant rather than forcing or improvising the join.

Can I release the coupling when the washer is turned off?

Only after fully depressurising the system as its manual directs. Pressure can remain trapped after the motor stops. Do not loosen a connector, pull a collar or inspect a seal while the assembly is still pressurised.
