Choose the liquid and delivery pattern together
A pump sprayer can apply a permitted pre-wash without drawing chemical through a pressure washer. It still needs rinsing equipment for the car, and the tank, seals, nozzle and working solution must be compatible. “Chemical resistant” is not a complete specification for every car-cleaning formula.
Start with the chemical's application instructions and working concentration. Then choose whether you need a liquid fan or a foaming head. The IK models below illustrate three distinct choices; they are not three interchangeable bottles with different labels. Check the exact model number because the Pro 2, Pro 2+, ALK and Foam ranges have different purposes.
Three sprayers for different applications
Compare usable fill, delivery and chemical brief
The three vessels are listed at 1.9 litres total, but their useful liquid fills differ. IK’s ALK Pro 2 and Multi Pro 2 allow 1.5 litres; the standard Foam Pro 2 allows 1.25 litres. Keep the specified air space for pressurisation rather than filling to the vessel’s total volume.
| Model | Useful / total Published litres | Delivery and maker’s chemical brief | Ideal fills / refills Calculated for 3 litres |
|---|---|---|---|
| IK ALK Pro 2 81685 | 1.5 / 1.9 | Liquid cone / fan. Alkalis, alcohols, ketones and neutral products among optimal categories. | 2 fills / 1 refill |
| IK Multi Pro 2 81671 | 1.5 / 1.9 | Liquid cone / fan. Neutral products and acids among optimal categories; other groups have limits. | 2 fills / 1 refill |
| IK Foam Pro 2 81676 | 1.25 / 1.9 | Foaming head; three mixers. Foaming agents. | 3 fills / 2 refills |
The 1.5-litre useful fill is 20% greater than 1.25 litres, but it does not turn a liquid head into a foamer or make a formulation compatible. IK’s chemical guidance is organised by substance, concentration and model, and does not provide universal approval for every formulated cleaner. The table summarises product briefs rather than approving a named pre-wash across all three sprayers.
For the refill example, three litres is an assumed total requirement, not a whole-car consumption claim. Fills = required liquid ÷ useful capacity, rounded up; refills = fills minus the initial fill. The 1.25-litre model needs two full fills and a final 0.5 litre, while a 1.5-litre model needs two full fills. This ideal plan assumes all useful liquid is dispensed; retained liquid or changing the working amount can add a fill. It says nothing about pumping frequency, coverage or spraying time. Release pressure fully before opening or refilling.
Download the model briefs, published capacities and refill arithmetic (CSV). A compatible head, exact formulation and instructed concentration still need to be established before filling.
IK ALK Pro 2: investigate for alkaline liquid pre-washes
The ALK Pro 2 is the relevant starting point within this comparison when a compatible alkaline working solution is required. IK lists alkaline products among its intended categories and supplies liquid-spray nozzle options. It is not a foam sprayer, and the category description is not approval for every pre-wash concentrate.
Confirm the complete formulation and working concentration against the IK compatibility information and chemical instructions. If those do not resolve the exact combination, ask the manufacturers. A pH number alone does not establish how every ingredient will affect the seals, tank or valve.
For compatible alkaline liquid pre-washes
IK ALK Pro 2
A manual liquid sprayer designed around resistance to alkaline substances, alcohols and ketones. It provides adjustable cone and fan nozzles with a 1.5-litre useful fill volume.
- 1.5-litre useful fill
- Cone and fan nozzles
- Depressurisable safety valve
Check the complete chemical formulation and its working concentration against IK guidance. ALK does not mean every pre-wash is approved. It sprays liquid rather than producing a foam blanket.
IK Multi Pro 2: a liquid sprayer with its own limits
The Multi Pro 2 has a 1.5 L usable fill and liquid-spray options. Its stated chemical categories differ from the ALK model. Do not buy it on the assumption that “Multi” means all alkaline car cleaners, or that using a weaker mixture necessarily resolves a compatibility problem.
It can make sense where the exact working solution falls within its instructions and a controlled liquid application is wanted. It does not turn liquid into the foam produced by the Foam Pro 2. If a product permits direct spraying without a foam blanket, that can still be a valid application; follow its dose and dwell rather than adding a foaming ingredient.
For a verified compatible liquid cleaner
IK Multi Pro 2
A manual liquid sprayer with cone and fan nozzles and a 1.5-litre useful capacity. IK emphasises neutral products, acids and disinfectants in its compatibility categories.
- 1.5-litre useful fill
- Liquid spray, not foam
- Model-specific chemical checks
Do not select it for an alkaline pre-wash merely because the name says Multi. Check the formulation and concentration; the ALK range has a different material brief. This model does not generate foam.
IK Foam Pro 2: choose it for a compatible foaming mixture
The standard Foam Pro 2, model 81676, has a 1.25 L usable fill and three mixers for different foam behaviour. It needs a suitable foaming agent within the sprayer's chemical compatibility requirements. The head does not make an unsuitable chemical safe, and a non-foaming liquid will not necessarily produce the desired result.
The selected model is manually pressurised. Do not infer battery operation or an external-air connection from another product with a similar name. The working fill is also smaller than the 1.5 L liquid models, which matters if you are planning coverage around a whole car.
For compatible foaming-agent application
IK Foam Pro 2
A hand-pumped foam sprayer with a 1.25-litre useful capacity and three mixers for wet, intermediate or dry foam. It works independently of a pressure-washer connection.
- 1.25-litre useful fill
- Three foam mixers
- Manual pump operation
Use a compatible foaming chemical at its direct-application dose. This standard Pro 2 is not the Pro 2+, ALK or battery version. Leave the required air space and depressurise before opening.
Calculate a direct mixture without borrowing a lance recipe
A direct sprayer delivers its tank mixture without the additional water stream of a pressure-washer lance. If the chemical expressly specifies a percentage of finished solution, concentrate ml = final mixture ml × percentage ÷ 100, and water ml = final mixture ml − concentrate ml.
The percentages below are hypothetical arithmetic examples, not recommended doses for any of the featured chemicals or sprayers. Apply a row only when the exact cleaner permits that direct concentration, the surface permits the method and the sprayer materials permit the complete formulation.
| Final mixture Assumed | Concentrate percentage Hypothetical | Concentrate Calculated | Water Calculated |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.5 litres | 0.5% | 2.5ml | 497.5ml |
| 0.5 litres | 1% | 5ml | 495ml |
| 0.5 litres | 2% | 10ml | 490ml |
| 1.25 litres | 0.5% | 6.25ml | 1,243.75ml |
| 1.25 litres | 1% | 12.5ml | 1,237.5ml |
| 1.25 litres | 2% | 25ml | 1,225ml |
| 1.5 litres | 0.5% | 7.5ml | 1,492.5ml |
| 1.5 litres | 1% | 15ml | 1,485ml |
| 1.5 litres | 2% | 30ml | 1,470ml |
The 1.5-litre rows exceed the standard Foam Pro 2’s useful fill. They fit only the listed ALK/Multi capacity limits, with chemistry checks still separate. A smaller batch can fit within a model’s maximum without proving that the chemical is suitable. Never add a whole 1.9-litre batch to these vessels simply because that is their total volume.
At 2%, a 1.25-litre final mix contains 25ml concentrate and 1225ml water. Adding 25ml to an already measured 1.25 litres of water instead makes 1275ml, about 1.96% concentrate, and exceeds that model’s useful fill. The distinction between “add to this much water” and “make this much finished mixture” affects both dose and capacity.
If the label uses one product part to N water parts, there are N + 1 total parts: concentrate = final ml ÷ (N + 1). Do not treat a product-to-water ratio as a percentage of final volume. The PERL mixing examples show that distinction for a different, surface-specific task.
Download all nine mixture examples and their capacity limits (CSV). The 0.5-litre batch is an assumed partial fill; 1.25 and 1.5 litres come from the listed useful capacities. For washer-driven dilution, use the separate PIR scenarios. No lance reservoir recipe is transferred here as a direct-spray instruction.
Put compatibility checks before the first fill
- Identify the exact sprayer model, chemical and instructed working concentration.
- Compare the complete product with the maker's chemical compatibility guidance; do not rely on a broad “professional” or “chemical resistant” description.
- Check the intended surface separately. Sprayer compatibility does not establish that a cleaner suits a soft-top roof, wrap or damaged paint.
- Inspect the tank, hose if fitted, nozzle and seals for damage. Do not use a cracked vessel or modify the safety valve.
- Have rinse water ready and choose cool suitable conditions before applying any pre-wash.
Service parts belong to the correct head
For the standard Foam Pro 2, IK's 81676800 kit contains the foam adapter and felt discs and is also described for the Foam 1.5. It is distinct from a broad seal-and-valve kit and from parts for the ALK or Multi liquid models. Match the exact kit and manufacturer procedure before purchase.
For the identified IK foam assembly
IK Foam 1.5 / Pro 2 adapter-and-felt kit
A model-specific service kit containing a foam adapter and felt discs for the named IK Foam 1.5 and standard Foam Pro 2 models. Useful when those parts need replacement after diagnosis.
- Foam adapter and felt discs
- IK reference 81676800
- Foam 1.5 / standard Pro 2
Match reference 81676800 and the parts diagram before ordering. This is not a universal seal kit or a pressure-washer lance filter, and compatibility with ALK versions must not be assumed.
Follow the model's maintenance instructions: release pressure before opening, rinse with clean water as directed and keep nozzles free of residue without using metal objects to clear them. Use original compatible parts and the specified lubricant only where instructed. Do not leave chemical sitting in a pressurised tank between washes.
Use a small sprayer within a manageable routine
A hand sprayer can be practical for a controlled area or a permitted whole-car application, but it does not remove the need to watch drying. Work in a size of section you can apply and rinse within the chemical's instructions. Wind, warm panels and repeated pumping can make an ambitious whole-car routine hard to control.
Use the dwell-time guide to plan the sequence. If you actually need a washer-driven foam blanket, compare compatible lances separately rather than expecting a manual sprayer to behave like one.
Common questions
Can any pump sprayer be used for snow foam?
No. A liquid sprayer and a foaming sprayer have different heads, and both require compatible chemicals at the instructed working concentration. Choose the exact model and application method together. A generic chemical-resistance claim does not establish compatibility with every pre-wash formula.
What is the difference between IK Multi Pro 2 and ALK Pro 2?
Both selected models have a 1.5 L usable liquid fill, but their chemical categories differ. ALK is the alkaline-resistant starting point in this comparison; Multi should not be assumed suitable for every alkaline pre-wash. Check the complete formulation and working concentration against the exact instructions.
How much liquid fits in the IK Foam Pro 2?
The standard 81676 has a 1.25L useful liquid fill inside a 1.9L vessel. The 1.5L examples in the mixture table are beyond its useful fill and belong only within the listed ALK/Multi capacity limits, with chemical compatibility checked separately. Follow the maximum fill and release pressure before opening.
Can I copy my foam-lance bottle mix into a pump sprayer?
Do not assume that is appropriate. A lance adds pressure-washer water, while a direct sprayer delivers its tank mixture. Follow the chemical’s specific direct-application concentration and confirm sprayer compatibility; the same bottle recipe can otherwise deliver a substantially different concentration.
Which felt kit fits the standard Foam Pro 2?
IK identifies kit 81676800 for the Foam 1.5 and standard Foam Pro 2; it contains the foam adapter and felt discs. Confirm the model and exact kit before ordering. It is not a general replacement kit for the ALK or Multi liquid-spray heads.
